Muller Van Severen created
several sets of five well attuned
circle-shaped objects to be
used as food trays. Five Circles
consists of three polyethylene
and two marble discs. When
piled up these five disks form a
colorful sculpture on the dinner
table.

With these pepper and salt
mills Muller Van Severen
once again shows that everyday
tools don’t have to be purely
functional nor seemingly invisible.
The design duo reinterpreted
the classic mill by reshaping the
two basic parts of it — the head
and the cylinder — into two
perfectly geometrical forms: a
sphere and a cube.

The renowned design couple
Muller Van Severen designed
their alu chair back in 2015 as
an outdoor chair for Anne
Holtrop’s Bahrain pavilion at
the World Expo in Milan. Since
then it has become one of the
favourite models for architects
and design fans with a heart for
playful minimalism. Although it
is originally conceived as an
outdoor chair, many have
already given it a place inside
their homes.

Although most design lovers know
Muller Van Severen for their
furniture, the design couple’s
story actually kicked off with the
conception of these hanging lamps.
The first prototypes were shown
at their first solo exhibition in 2011.
During that exhibition, they filled
the gallery space Valerie Traan of
Veerle Wenes with designs that
looked as if somebody took a set of
crayons and started drawing in the
air. This is in fact exactly how these
lamps should be interpreted, as
seemingly naive drawings materialized
into real life. The hanging lamps add
a sober but colorful line to the interior.

The standing lamp is a continuation
of the hanging lamp. These lamps
originate from the same concept,
which is the materialization of
simple and colorful drawings in the
space of the interior. Similar to the
hanging lamp, this standing lamp
consists of practically nothing more
than one fluent, curved line with a
bulb attached to the end of it. Since
this object needs to stand on the
ground, two small lines were added,
becoming the legs of the lamp. On
one hand the basic design doesn’t
draw too much attention, on the other
hand its playful character does tingle
the eye.
